Troy Hunt

Welcome to New Water Fly Company! My name is Troy Hunt. I was born and raised in the Texas Hill Country fishing local rivers as well as the marshes and bays of the beautiful TX coast. Having access to a diversity of fisheries in Texas as well as the Florida Gulf Coast (thanks Uncle Bill and Doug Rigsby!) has allowed me to target numerous fish species in a variety of habitats. Applying knowledge from these experiences has aided in my ability to design flies.

I was born in Kerrville, TX and grew up in New Braunfels, just outside of San Antonio. I’ve been blessed with two awesome parents that have always pushed me to seek the Lord and to be the best that I can be. Being the youngest of two boys, I always looked to my older brother for guidance and am thankful that God blessed him, as well as so many other men in my family, with such skill and passion for the outdoors. He, as well as my father and grandfathers, continues to pass so much of that knowledge and insight on to me. While not all of them fly fish, the love for God’s creations connects us all and I appreciate that.

After earning an Agricultural Economics degree at Texas A&M in 2017, I moved back to my birthplace of Kerrville to spend time on the 7 rivers within an hour of my home as well as my grandfather’s ranch just up the road. I hope to make trips to South America, Mongolia, and Kamchatka in the not so distant future, but for now I’ll keep enjoying my local fisheries. Thanks for reading!
